Vintage Rubbers

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

While I was at my mum’s house I came across a tub of loads of novelty rubbers (or erasers, to avoid confusion for Americans). Apparently she bought them at a car boot sale years ago. There’s some really odd ones in here that just make my think “WHY!?”. I do love the stationary ones above though (the peg actually works like a normal one), the little record further down, and the detail in the cute wee pack of matches at the bottom.

I love old books!

Yesterday was spent looking round charity and vintage shops in Seaford (a town just down the coast which seemed to be populated by only grumpy OAPs). Among the things I bought were these two books that have some great illustrations.  Click on these to see them bigger because you can’t just can’t see the details at a mere 500px wide.

British Birds - cover by you.

I seem to have a growing collection of natural history reference books. £1.

Rosemary - front by you.

Picked this up for £2 just because I liked the cover. All I can tell about it without reading it is it’s young fiction. I couldn’t find out anything about the author online.

Reads: Florence Emma Jones. From her Father, 21st March 1906.

One of the illustrations, there’s more in the flickr set.

postcard - st john

To celebrate sending off my first postcrossing postcard, I scanned some old postcards I bought from a Oxfam bookshop in Nottingham. They had 2 boxes of them out, most of them were blank but I managed to find these ones that had been written on. I wonder if someone gave them a collection, or if just a lot of people donate postcards?

Anyway, this one from The National Gallery is my favourite. There are a few more in this flickr set, the earliest one is dated 1909.
